Craps Rules Pass Line Bet

Each round in craps starts with what is known as the come-out roll. Most casinos will require that the shooter place a bet before making this roll on either the pass line or the don’t pass line. If the combined value of the two dice on a come-out roll equals 2, 3, or 12, then this is “crapping out” and the round is over.

The most common bet in craps is the pass-line bet, this is also known as the front-line bet. The reason the pass-line bet is so popular is because of the fact that it offers eight different ways to win while it only has four ways to lose. The house edge when playing the pass-line bet in craps is only 1.41% which makes craps one of the casino games with the lowest house advantage.

  • The pass line bet is the most common wager used in the game of craps. This is considered a line bet because there is a large line area on the table layout where you can place your chips. The bet itself is simple, you are essentially wagering that the shooter will roll a 7 or 11 on the come out roll to win.
  • The Pass Line Bet is wagering on the shooter to win. The Don’t Pass Bet is the opposite, betting on the shooter to lose. If the shooter rolls a “7” on the come-out roll, he or she wins. Every bettor at the table who made that same come-out bet also win.

This is how the pass-line bet works:

  • If a 7 or 11 is rolled on the come-out roll you will win your bet.
  • If the come-out roll is 2, 3, or 12 (known as craps) you will lose your bet.

  • If the come-out roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, that number will become the point, and the following rolls will be point rolls.
  • You will lose if a 7 comes up before the point after the point is decided.

Throughout the point rolls, all of the pass-line bets still have a chance to win if the determined point is rolled before a 7, which could potentially happen on the next roll. In some cases though it could be that the shooter would have to throw the dice 20-30 times before the bet is either won by the point coming up or lost by a 7 being rolled. When a seven is rolled it is called to “seven out”, when a the roller seven’s out all the pass-line bets are lost.

A simple example of a pass-line bet

Let’s say the come-out roll is an 8 which means the white puck is moved to the box with the number 8 with the “ON” side up. For the upcoming rolls you will only have to focus on the numbers 7 and 8 as they are the ones that will determine if you win or lose. All other rolls are meaningless to your pass-line bet. If the 8 comes up before a 7 is rolled you will win and if the 7 comes up before an 8 is rolled you lose. It’s really as simple as that.
