Monte Casino Dinner And Show
Montecasino offers world class productions at our two theatres The Teatro Pieter Toerien’s Theatre and Studio. Local and international productions, ranging from musicals and comedy to fairy tales on ice and death-defying acrobatics, keep audiences coming back for more. Cantare at Montecasino is apparently a sister restaurant of Verdicchio down stairs and shares the same menu. If you look at the current ratings it is very difficult to get an impression as the level of service and the quality of the food seems not to be very stable. The range of special offers and packages available at Southern Sun Montecasino has been designed to provide the best combination of comfort and value for money. Whether you want to attend the theatre or a concert, enjoy a gastronomic getaway or simply need a convenient business hotel base in Johannesburg, Southern Sun Montecasino has a number.
You finally got tickets to the Michael’s buddies doing a little jig in noisy shoes in Lord of the Dance or you opted for a night of belly splitting laughter at one of the many comedy shows on offer at Monte, but where on earth should you eat before you get descend into one the theatres in fake Italy?

I’ve linked each restaurant to its profile on Zomato. You can view the menu, photos, the restaurant’s overall rating out of 5 as well as reviews from a number of people. If you want to follow me on Zomato, click here – https://www.zomato.com/jesska
Whilst I don’t recommend front row seats for comedy shows unless you enjoy being the butt of many jokes, perhaps you want to feel the blood, sweat and tears of the performers on stage, and you spent all your money on the expensive tickets. You still need to eat, and you don’t necessarily want to boil water for the stale two minute noodles at the back of your cupboard. These affordable options will ensure that your tummy doesn’t interrupt a beautiful musical number.
The hotdog vendor in the casino
I hate viennas. It’s not a secret, but this is the cheapest food option at Monte. One handed food for the avid gamblers who need their other hand to push the button just one more time. I can’t recommend it, but had to mention it for it’s affordability. #sorrynotsorry
Barcelos
Flame grilled chicken without the sarcasm of the other flame grilled chicken place. With the highest rating on Zomato out of all the fast food places in Monte, you probably won’t be disappointed.
Steers
Because steers chips. #thatisall
Anat
With a build your own selection to keep both veggie and meat eaters happy, the shwarmas at Anat are very popular and very, very messy. Ask for extra serviettes.
Jenda – Picture provided by Tsogo Sun
You didn’t drive all the way to Fourways to eat out of a cardboard box. You want plates, cutlery and a friendly waiter to bring you your food. Good portions at good prices, is that too much to ask? No, my fake internet friend, no it isn’t.
Spur
Not my first choice of restaurant, but Spur’s family friendly atmosphere and consistent food can’t be ignored. Plus who doesn’t like the Spur “Birthday” experience, bring on the sparklers and awesome singing. You can find the Spur in the food court.
Col’Cacchio
Pizza. Pasta. Banting friendly options. Pretty much suitable for everyone and their weird eating habits.
Kai Thai
I eat at the Kai Thai franchise more than I probably should. Whilst I prefer the Olivedale branch, the one at Monte is good. My favourite dish is Black Bean Beef. Do it.
Jenda Food and Wine
Monte Casino Dinner And Shows
Jenda, being more casual bar than restaurant does serve an assortment of tapas style food. Great for a quick nibble and conveniently located near the theatre. The chicken wings are a must.
Fillet Steak from Meat Co – Picture from http://themeatco.com
It’s the end of the month, the debit orders have yet to go through and you are a feeling a bit flush. Or perhaps that R200 you bet on red has doubled (is that how it works – I don’t gamble, so I have no knowledge about these things). You want to eat at a nice place, but you still want to be able to pay for baby Suzie’s Karate lessons next month.
La Scala
If you are in fake Italy, you definitely should eat some Italian food. La Scala has plenty of rave reviews and has a variety of seafood, meat and pasta dishes. There is no pizza on the menu, so if that’s what you are after, you should try somewhere else.
Beira Alta
Delicious Portuguese food, great for both meat and seafood lovers. A little on the pricy side compared to other Portuguese restaurants in Jozi, but it’s payday, remember.
The Met Grill
Steaks, Ribs, Burgers. And about 100 other things on the menu. I haven’t eaten here, but based on some reviews I’ve seen it’s full of the noms.
Meat Co
More meat. We really are spoiled for choice with meat restaurants in South Africa. If steak is your thing, you have a choice of 6 different cuts.
Price is not an issue, you just want to eat amazing food in your Louis Vuitton LBD. Or you are from overseas, and you are jumping up and down at the unbelievable exchange rate. (Dear Rand, why you so weak?)
Ok these places aren’t that expensive.
Punchinellos
Located inside the Southern Sun Hotel, Punchinellos is the cheaper of the fine dining options available at Monte. I have eaten the infamous Sunday Lunch buffet, as well as enjoyed a number of events that have been catered by this restaurant. Great for a celebration, they often have special evenings with menus created by guest chefs.
The Medeo Restaurant at the Palazzo Hotel
Don your Fancy Fat Pants, this place is très fancy. With an à la carte menu for the days that don’t have special wine pairing evenings, your taste buds are in for a treat. It’s probably best if you book in advance.
